Our process is foreign to the world of modern spirits. We zest the citrus and infuse it into our 7x distilled vodka with real herbs and spices. The fruit is then juiced and blended in. This old-school production is why Broda is so unique -- creating deep and complex flavors in the base of our vodka. Absolutely no shortcuts here.
Every bit of the ginger is peeled by hand to maximize its fresh and light taste. This gives it a warm, unique kick at the end of each sip.
Alek Szczupak
A family tradition is being turned into a quickly-growing business by two young brothers. Alek Szczupak, 23, and his 25-year-old brother Jan Szczupak, are the co-founders and owners of the Glenview-based liquor brand Broda.
The company name, which means beard, was the nickname of their uncle, a Polish immigrant who was known for producing his own lemon vodka. Families in the Polish nobility, known as Szlachta, often kept these recipes secret, and they were only given to the senior children upon the death of the father. The production of nalewka later spread to ordinary households.
